Parents troop to Divisoria, warehouse sales for school supplies and savings

A day after payday for most, parents flocked to Divisoria on Saturday for early back-to-school shopping.

Nette Duhar brought P500 with her to buy five polo shirts for her son who is in high school.

Polos and blouses in Divisoria sell for as low as P150 for two pieces. Bigger sizes are sold for P90 to P130 per piece.
Skirts are sold at P120 to P150 while pants are pegged from P140 to P170.

According to vendors, prices have gone up this month..

"Tumaas ng konti kasi dati ang bentahan namin ng small to XL, P110. Ngayon, P130 na kasi tumaas na kuha namin," retailer Erik Balingit explained.  He however said that prices won't increase further even as the new schoolyear approaches.

"Hindi na po magbabago yan."

Notebooks are one of the most salable items. Yarn-sewn notebooks cost P10 to P12 each. Spiral notebooks sell for P10 per piece while composition and writing notebooks are sold for P9 each.

Shoppers get a one-peso discount for each notebook if they also buy ballpens or pencils. Pencils and ballpens can be bought for from P7 to P15 each.

An eight-piece set of crayons goes for P25 per box while 16-piece and 24-piece sets are sold for P45 and P65, respectively.

Warehouse sales

Aside from Divisoria,  parents like Leonora Pantabilla also go to warehouse sales of school supplies manufacturers for supplies and savings.

From Valenzuela, she went to Brgy. Potrero in Malabon to look for items being sold in bulk since she needs more than 40 notebooks for her four kids.

"Pang whole year na para makatipid sana ng konti." Pantabilla said.

Yarn-sewn notebooks are sold for P11 at the warehouse. Spiral notebooks cost P10 to P11 while writing and composition notebooks can be bought for as low as P5 to P11.
