Fire razes bowling center in UP Diliman


Fire razed the bowling center beside the Bahay ng Alumni in the University of the Philippines Diliman campus late Tuesday evening, radio dzBB reported.



Firefighters and their fire trucks rushed to the scene, said John Ariel Rojas (@bimboy_palaboy) on Twitter.


The Philippine Collegian reported via its Facebook account that one volunteer firefighter was hurt while putting out the fire.
 
"Approximately 50 student-athletes living in the hostel beside the bowling center were evacuated (to) the Kalayaan Residence Hall," the weekly student publication of students of UP Diliman reported.
 
Four employees safely exited the burning building.
 
The Collegian said the fire started at about 11:30 p.m. the barracks of the pinsetters.
 
"(A)n electrical short circuit gutted down the bowling center and parts of the canteen of the UP Alumni Association Hostel," the Collegian also said.

The UP Journalism Club reported in a Twitter post that one the bowling pin setters, Roel Flosa, "felt" someone enter the premises before the fire started.

Property damage was estimated at P200,000 by deputy fire marshal Jesus Fernandez. 
 
"The fire reached 2nd alarm and was declared out by 12:36 a.m. of July 1," the Collegian reported.
 
Last June 13, fire struck the CASAA Food Center, a canteen on the campus that was popular among generations of UP students. Two people were injured in that incident. — ELR, GMA News
