Thousands affected as Maynilad starts water supply interruption

Thousands of residents in Metro Manila are expected to be affected by the water service interruption that Maynilad implemented on Monday morning.

The water interruption started at 11 a.m. in portions of barangays Alabang, Buli, Cupang and Sucat in Muntinlupa City. The interruption in these areas will last until 4 a.m. Wednesday.

From 1 p.m. today until 2 a.m. Wednesday, water supply will be cut in at least 200 barangays in Manila.

Service interruptions are also scheduled in some areas in other parts of Manila, Caloocan, Makati, Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Pasay.

Several towns in Cavite, including Rosario, Imus, Noveleta, Cavite City, Kawit, and Bacoor, will also be affected by the water interruption.

The rotating water interruption will last until August 18.

Ronald Padua, Maynilad Water Supply Operations head Ronald Padua, said in an interview on GMA 7's Unang Hirit that a seven-foot-tall pipe that supplies water from La Mesa Dam to almost 40 percof their customers in Manila and Cavite will have to be realigned to give way to a flood interceptor project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The flood interceptor would be made to control flooding in España Boulevard in Manila and its surrounding areas.

On the process, magkakaroon ng water interruption,” he added.
