Some Metro Manila schools and universities suspend classes due to water supply disruption


(Updated 9:30 p.m., Aug. 11) Due to Maynilad's rotating water interruption, some universities and schools in Metro Manila have suspended classes this week.

Pasay City has suspended classes in all levels in private and public schools on Aug. 11 and 12.

Below is the list of class suspensions in colleges and universities:

Adamson University: No classes and work the whole day on Aug. 11

De La Salle University: No classes on Aug. 10 and 11. The Lasallian Personal Effectiveness Program—a two-day orientation program for new students—for the College of Liberal Arts was moved to August 14 and 15.

Emilio Aguinaldo College: No classes in all levels at EAC-Manila on Aug. 11. Makeup classes will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15.

Lyceum of the Philippines University: No classes and work the whole day on Aug. 11

Mapua Institute of Technology: No classes on Aug. 11 in Intramuros campus. Office operations will continue on Aug. 11.

Philippine Normal University: No classes in all levels from Aug. 11 to 12.

Philippine Women's University: No classes and offices in Taft and Indiana campuses on Aug. 11.

Santa Isabel College: No classes on Aug. 11 and 17 for the Basic Education Department; Aug. 10, 11 and 17 for the Higher Education Department; no NTCS and office work on Aug. 11 and 17.

High school and grade school

Meanwhile, classes in the following schools were also suspended on Aug. 11-12 and Aug. 17-18, according to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Manila:

District II:
  • Torres High School
  • Lakandula High School
  • Manuel Quezon High School
  • F. Calderon High School
  • F. Calderon Elementary School

District III:
  • T. Alonzo High School
  • Arellano High School
  • Raja Soliman High School
  • J.P. Laurel High School
  • Jose Abad Santos High School

District V:
  • Manila Science High School
  • Manila High School
  • Araullo High School
  • Justo Lucban Elementary School
  • A. Quezon Elementary School
  • E. Delos Santos Elementary School


Classes were also suspended Tuesday at The Lord is My Shepherd School of Manila.

The water interruption started at 11 a.m. Monday in portions of barangays Alabang, Buli, Cupang, and Sucat in Muntinlupa City. The interruption in these areas will last until 4 a.m. Wednesday.

From 1 p.m. on Monday until 2 a.m. Wednesday, water service will be interrupted  in at least 200 barangays in Manila.
 
Service interruptions are also scheduled in some areas in other parts of Manila and the cities of Caloocan, Makati, Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Pasay.
 
Several towns in Cavite, including Rosario, Imus, Noveleta, Cavite City, Kawit, and Bacoor, will also be affected by the water interruption.
