Beep card trial at LRT1 southbound stations ‘a success’

The public trial for the "contactless ticketing system" at Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT 1) Southbound stations on Sunday was a success.

In posts on his Twitter accounts dzBB's Many Vargas said "beep cards sa LRT1 patok na sa mga regular na pasahero."

Southbound LRT1 passengers at stations from Roosevelt in Quezon City to Pasay City on Sunday tried the contactless ticketing system or "beep cards."

"Sinubukan ang beep card ... [mga] split second ang pag-tap ng card at pagpasok. Ganun din ang paglabas," Vargas said.

A netizen who tried the system said, "I feels so Signapre."

But another netizen commented:

The beep card was pilot tested at LRT Line 2 stations late in July.

A "News To Go" report quoted AF Payments CEO Peter Maher as saying that the pilot testing of the tap-and-load card went well at the Legarda Station despite some glitches.

Advantages

An article on The Official Gazatte said there are several advantages of the new ticketing system. These include:

- contactless card can be used for three (3) rail lines
- can be purchased for only P20 (one-time card fee) and can be loaded with as little as P12 to as much as P10,000 and is valid for 4 years; unused value can be transferred to a new card

Also it said plans are in place to also make the beep cards available for other public transportation like buses and taxis, and for purchasing goods and services from other merchant partners (fast food outlets, convenience stores, toll ways, parking, etc.) — LBG, GMA News
