BECAUSE OF A BAD STARE?

Barangay captain beats up former executive officer in Tondo

A barangay captain from Tondo was caught on CCTV beating his former ex-o and friend to a pulp with what seemed like a firearm after he was allegedly given a bad stare, a report from GMA's “24 Oras” said Wednesday.

The report said Captain Julius Catalig of barangay 227 zone 21 in Tondo, Manila suddenly lashed out at his friend around 8 p.m. during a barangay basketball game on Monday.

The video footage showed Catalig going behind the victim identified as Christopher Llas and suddenly hitting him with the gun on his nape.

Another man wearing a black shirt then held the victim so that Catalig could beat him up freely. The victim then fainted on the ground but was still kicked by Catalig while he was down and out.

Llas said he had no idea why the suspect acted that way, although they had former arguments.

“Sobrang sakit po ng ginawa niya sa akin. Dahil simula ng naging ex-o ako sa barangay pinag tanggol ko po siya. Idedemanda ko po siya,” he said.

Catalig on the other hand said that the firearm he was holding was actually a pellet gun. He also said the victim was giving him a bad stare so he thought the victim was planning something against him.

“Ginawa ko pinutok ko 'yung gloc, nakita niya lumabas talaga doon pellet. Tapos pinahawak ko na doon sa kasama ko [at inunahan ko na siya],” he said.

The suspect is facing serious physical injuries charges. -Andrei Medina/NB, GMA News
