Police hunt Manila cop seen shooting fellow officer in CCTV video

Police are on the lookout for a cop caught on CCTV video dueling with another officer in Tondo, Manila on Thursday.

 

Supt. Joel Abalos Villanueva, Manila Police District Station 7 chief , told GMA News TV's "Balitanghali" on Friday that a full manhunt for PO1 Laurence Sagum is under way.

 

"Kapag nagkamali ang isang kapulisan natin, 'di natin tinotolerate na manatlili sa kapulisan. Kakasuhan po natin 'yun," Villanueva said.

 

CCTV footage showed Sagum and PO2 Isagani Jimenez racing along Dagupan Street in Brgy. 51 until Jimenez cut Sagum off by swerving in front of him.

 

Sagum responded by shooting Jimenez, who fell off his bike and lost his pistol after the bullet grazed his head.

 

One of Sagum's shots pierced the gate of a drugstore minded by witness Rosalie Cerillo.

 

"Nagulat po ako kasi biglang may pumutok. Yung customer ko mas lalong nakakatakot kasi may hawak na baby, kakatawid lang po niya. Buti na lang hindi siya natamaan," Cerillo recalled.

 

According to their neighbors, Sagum and Jimenez nursed a well-known grudge against each other despite being childhood acquaintances.

 

However, barangay captain Peping Garcia said the altercation between Sagum and Jimenez was unexpected.

 

"Magkababata pa 'yan. 'Di mo mapapaghinalaan silang nagkakaroon ng alitan dahil matagal na eh," he said. — Rie Takumi/JDS, GMA News
