Vendors against Manila public markets' privatization go on 'holiday'
(Updated 8:59 a.m.) Vendors around Manila went on a "holiday" on Monday in protest of the city government's ordinance privatizing public markets in the capital city.
As of 8 a.m., vendors from the Trabajo Market were preparing to leave and march to the Sampaloc Public Market to join more protesters.
From the Sampaloc market, the vendors will proceed to the Quinta Market and then march toward the city hall.
Vendors from the Sta. Ana and other public markets around the city, including Pritil, Dagonoy and San Andres, are expected to join the protesters at the city hall.
The vendors open early, but as radio dzBB made rounds around 4 a.m., stalls at the Sta. Ana, Trabajo and Quinta public markets were empty.
