Echiverri files COC for mayor of Caloocan

Caloocan City Rep. Enrico "Recom" Echiverri on Wednesday afternoon filed his certificate of candidacy for mayor with the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Echiverri, who went to the Comelec office in Caloocan via a motorcade, was joined by running mate Rodolfo "Ato" Oliva, as well as by Dr. Susan Punzalan and Mitch Cajayo, his candidates for Congress in the first and second districts of Caloocan, respectively.

He said he will run for mayor to put a stop on the alleged inefficient practices by the current administration.

Echiverri, who will run under the Nationalist People's Coalition, also said he isn't intimidated by the political clans who have formed an alliance for next year's local elections.

Echiverri began his political career as a Caloocan councilor from 1988 to 1992. He served as the city's first district representative from 1998 until 2004, when he was elected mayor.

His son, Ricojudge, ran for mayor in the 2013 elections, but was defeated by incumbent mayor Oscar Malapitan. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
