Avoid traffic during the Christmas rush by taking Mabuhay Lanes

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority advised motorists of the 17 alternate routes, or Mabuhay lanes, to be formally opened for Christmas season starting November 1.

The lanes may be used by private motorists until January 2, 2016, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

In an interview on Thursday, Crisanto Saruca, OIC of the MMDA Traffic Discipline Office, said the lanes have been open for a few weeks to help motorists avoid traffic on EDSA.

For the upcoming Christmas season, signs have been placed on the routes to direct motorists.

Saruca said Mabuhay lanes will be opened to help motorists avoid main thoroughfares where shoppers and travelers are expected to troop, since many of the major malls and bus terminals are along EDSA.

Aside from alternate routes to avoid EDSA, lanes are also opened to lead to busy spots in Manila, such as Carriedo and Divisoria.

The MMDA, together with the police's Highway Patrol Group, will also implement "absolute clearing of obstructions" in the identified lanes, where illegal vendors and carolers are discouraged to stay.

Tow trucks and wreckers will also be assigned to tow and impound illegally parked cars there.
