3 firemen hurt in fire in Tatalon, Quezon City

Three firemen were hurt when a burning electric post fell during a fire in Brgy. Tatalon in Quezon City on Thursday night, a report on News To Go on Friday said.

Fire volunteer Manuel Claudio lost consciousness and had first-degree burn due to the incident.

"Mainit 'yung porcelain, 'yung mga wirings na exposed din sa sunog, so halo-halo. Mainit talaga 'yung materyal na bumagsak at pumalo sa kanya," Supt. Crispo Diaz, assistant regional director for operation of the Bureau of Fire Protection-National Capital Region, said.

Diaz was also injured, along with Chief Inspector Alma Abacajen.

"Wirings 'yung pumitik sa likod ko at nagpatumba sa akin," Diaz said.

Some 100 houses made of light materials were razed in the fire and 300 families were left homeless.

Initial investigation showed the fire started past 7 p.m. Thursday at the house of resident Napoleon Bantelo.

The BFP said the fire may have been caused by illegal electrical connection or a stove left unattended.

The damage due to the fire, which reached Task Force Alpha, may run up to about P600,000, the BFP said.

The fire was put out by 10 p.m. Thursday.

Affected residents were led to the nearest barangay covered court for temporary shelter. —KG, GMA News
