OPLAN UNDAS 2015

Passengers advised to arrive at NAIA early enough for flights

Airport officials advised passengers traveling this weekend for All Saints' Day to be at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport early enough so as not to be late for their flights, a report on Unang Balita on Tuesday said.

"Agahan niyo ang lakad. Ang daming ibang factors like traffic," Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) operations chief Deputy Director General Rodante Hoya said.

There is an expected increase in passenger volume at airports this weekend as Filipinos go home to their provinces to pay their respects to the dead.

Oplan Undas 2015 is already in place at NAIA, the report said. Airport staff were not allowed to go on leave so as not to hamper operations.

"Added preps in place. Coordinate with airlines," David de Castro, spokesman of the Manila International Airport Authority, said.

Under Oplan Undas 2015, the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group, CAAP Security and Intelligence Service, and the Office of Transportation Security will impose stricter security measures.

Meanwhile, an overseas Filipina worker and a Japanese national were found to have bullets in their luggage on Monday.

The two were placed in police custody while investigation is being done.

"We are ready to cooperate to authorities and provide copies of CCTVs," de Castro said.

Passenger volume is expected to increase even more on Thursday.

The MIAA advised passengers to double-check with the airlines the status of their flight schedules.

On Saturday, some flights were canceled due to the haze that reached Visayas and Mindanao from Indonesia.

The MIAA, however, is confident the haze will not affect flights this coming All Saints' Day weekend, the report said. —KG, GMA News
