Flower prices at Dangwa market start to drop

The prices of various kinds of flowers in Dangwa market in Manila have started to drop a day before Undas, GMA News' Rida Reyes reported on “Balitanghali” on Saturday.

Reyes said customers this Saturday were not as many compared to those who came on Friday to buy flowers for the observance of All Souls' Day.

Also, Reyes said that last Friday was a pay day and those who want to travel to the provinces on that day trooped to Dangwa to buy flowers.

Still, prices of flowers at Dangwa on Saturday, though lower compared to Friday's prices, were significantly higher than the regular rates.

At Dangwa, rates of some flowers on Saturday were:

  • Malaysian Mums from P80 – P100 to P120 – P150 per bundle
  • White Anthurium from P400 – P500 to P500 – P600 per dozen
  • Roses from P100 – P150 to P250 – P350 per dozen
  • Chrysanthemum from P80 to P100 – P120 per bundle
  • Carnation from P160 – P180 to P200 – P220 per ten pieces
  • Statis from P100 to P150 per bundle
  • Stargazer from P100 to P180 per stem

But flower vendors were now willing to entertain haggling customers depending on their budget.

“Kung baga ngayon ang ginagawa namin ngayon nag adjust kami sa price. Nagbababa kami ng less 20 Pesos para lang mapaubos talaga 'yung paninda. So far bawi naman ['yung puhunan],” a flower vendor said.

An estimated 1.7 million people are expected to pay their respects to their departed loved ones at the Manila North Cemetery and the Manila South Cemetery on Saturday, the report said. — Andrei Medina/LBG, GMA News
