Jason Ivler transferred to New Bilibid Prison
Convicted murderer Jason Ivler was transferred to the New Bilibid Prison on Wednesday, a day after he was found guilty by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court of murder, a report from GMA's “Balitanghali” by Bernadette Reyes said Wednesday.
The report said Ivler was transferred from the detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City where he was initially held.
Ivler was sentenced to reclusion pepetua after the court found him guilty for the shooting to death of Renato Ebarle Jr. following a traffic altercation on Santolan Road in 2009.
But Ivler who was also asked to pay over P9 million in damages to the Ebarle family maintained he was innocent.
“For this, I'm not guilty. They said in court it automatically gets appealed,” he said.
The father of the victim, former Palace official Renato Ebarle Sr. said their family was still hurting from the incident that took their son away.
“My only regret is there is no more death penalty now. 'Yung suffering na dinanas nami ng pamilya, the emotional, mental pain that the whole family suffered, the anguish, hindi mo basta basta masabi na mapapatawad mo 'yung tao. Hindi pa muna ngayon,” he said.
Ivler was arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation last January 18, 2015 after putting up an armed fight with authorities.
He was also convicted for a reckless imprudence resulting in slight physical injuries case after he was involved in a road accident where Presidential assistant for resettlement secretary Nestor Ponce Jr. died in 2004. -Andrei Medina/NB, GMA News
