LSGH student held hostage by holdup suspect inside school compound

A student from La Salle Green Hills was held for ransom after a holdup incident inside the school premises last Sunday.

Pasig Women's Desk supervisor SPO4 Marieper Bala said in a "Balitanghali" report that the student was about to go home after football practice when the suspect entered his vehicle and pointed a weapon at him.

The suspect initially asked for P100,000, but was only given P40,000 by the parents of the victim, who agreed to meet up at a nearby mall.

Annalyn Perez, who is the aunt of the victim and the driver of the vehicle when the incident happened, said in a statement that the suspect wanted money to pay for hospital bills.

Other valuable items with the victim such as gadgets were not taken.

"Simula kahapon, okay naman na ang victim. Na-release agad ng suspect ang biktima pagkabigay ng pera nung na-holdap at iniwan rin agad ang bata. Nagpahatid ang suspect sa Starmall sa Mandaluyong tapos tumakas na," Bala said.

Pasig police is in contact with authorities of LSGH to acquire the necessary CCTV footage that may aid investigation and give light to the identity of the suspect.

For its part, the school said the incident happened after a public sports event held at campus grounds.

"La Salle Green Hills (LSGH) was the venue for this public event and, as a host, welcomed the guests who included young male and female athletes and their adult guardians," said LSGH President Bro. Victor A. Franco, FSC in a statement.

"The incident happened shortly after the event when many of the guests had started to leave."

LSGH also assured parents and students that it is taking measures to prevent another such incident.

"The school administration would like to assure the LSGH community that the school is implementing all necessary precautions to continuously ensure the safety and security of everyone, most specially the students, when they are inside the school premises," said Franco.

"The existing security and safety protocols that are already in place will be reviewed and strengthened further to ensure that everyone is safe while on campus." —Bianca Rose Dabu/JST/ALG, GMA News
