Cash, porn DVDs and other contraband found in jail guards' office at 'Bilibid'

Jail guards at the medium security compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City are in hot water following the seventh jail raid conducted by Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) personnel early Tuesday.

GMA News' John Consulta reported on News To Go that raiding BuCor personnel decided to include in the surprise inspection the jail guards' office after they came out empty-handed in initial raids at the inmates' cells.

The raiding team seized from the jail guards' office several mobile phones, improvised deadly weapons, pornographic movies and illegal drugs.

Radio dzBB's James Agustin reported that the BuCor personnel also seized P18,000 cash, television sets, three fighter roosters, and several machetes.

Consulta, meanwhile, reported that the raiding BuCor personnel also seized at least 30 paddles which gangs inside the detention compound use for initiation rites of their new recruits.

The report said that the jail guards involved have declined to talk to the media.

BuCor chief Ricardo Rainier Cruz III said that the result of the raid is clear proof that jail guards are involved in the smuggling of contrabands into the NBP.

He said he will order a deeper investigation into the jail guards' involvement in the contrabands' smuggling into the jail facility.

Members of the Philippine Army's Explosive and Ordnance Division and K-9 units of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency joined the inspection team.

The team also inspected the prison cells of former actor Dennis Roldan and Jason Ivler, who was just recently convicted of murder

The BuCor personnel also seized laptops, CCTV cameras, cellular phones, wifi gadgets and sound system.

The raid was the seventh conducted by BuCor since November.
