MMDA traffic constable arrested in Mandaluyong over alleged extortion


Barangay officials on Tuesday night arrested a traffic constable of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) for alleged extortion.

The MMDA constable was identified as Raymond Ching.

He who was arrested by officials of Barangay Daang Bakal in Mandaluyong City after allegedly extorting P200 from a driver of meat dealer's delivery van along Shaw Boulevard near General Kalentong Street.

Ramil Minalabag, the van's driver, said they were about to deliver meat at the Kalentong market when Ching flagged them down.

Minalabag, who admitted that he had no driver's license at the time, said he summoned their supervisor, Rex Giobaco, to talk to Ching.

Minalabag said Ching asked for P500 from Giobaco.

After a minutes of haggling, Minalabag said Ching agreed to lower the demand to P200.

Instead of just leaving after paying Ching the amount, Minalabag and his supervisor went to the barangay hall and filed a complaint against the traffic constable.

Ching denied that he extorted money from Minalabag and Giobaco.

He said he had a drinking session with a friend and was already on his way home when he spotted Minalabag's vehicle.

Ching said he flagged the vehicle down because of a traffic violation.

The barangay officials has turned over Ching to the Mandaluyong City police. —ALG, GMA News
