Former Pasay City mayor Peewee Trinidad passes away

Former Pasay City mayor Wenceslao "Peewee" Trinidad has died due to a lingering illness. He was 82.

Trinidad's passing was confirmed to GMA News Online by Neri Delfin, a brother-in-law of the former mayor. Lawyer Tina Carvajal, the city's former administrator, also confirmed the report.

Delfin, however, said he has yet to get information on the cause of death even as radio station dzRH reported that Trinidad died of pneumonia past 1 p.m. Friday at the Asian Hospital in Muntinlupa City.

Trinidad was city mayor from 2000 to 2010.

He last ran for the same post in 2013, but lost by a big margin to incumbent Mayor Antonio Calixto.

Months before his death, the Sandiganbayan found him guilty, along with former Pasay City Rep. Jose Antonio Roxas, of graft over the alleged anomalous awarding of P489.95-million contract for the construction of a shopping center in 2004.

Trinidad and Roxas were sentenced to at least 10 years in jail and the accessory penalty of perpetual disqualification from public office

The former mayor had appealed his conviction.  — APG, GMA News
