Ateneo to implement stricter security measures after bomb threat

The Ateneo de Manila University on Tuesday said it will implement stricter security measures following a bomb threat which prompted a campus lockdown and suspension of classes on Monday.

In a statement from Ateneo's Office of the President, Fr. Jose Ramon T. Villarin said that the administration expects full cooperation from the university community as these additional security and safety protocols will be implemented, mainly by the Campus Safety and Mobility Office (CSMO).

“We would like to thank the University community for its cooperation during the lockdown and evacuation processes. Our sincerest thanks also to the various EODD units and our University Emergency Management Team (UEMT) for their timely response to this emergency situation,” Villarin said.

After a university employee received text messages warning about bomb explosions in the vicinity at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, all buildings were immediately evacuated. Classes and work for the whole day were suspended.

The campus was declared clear and safe at around 2 p.m. after two bomb sweeps by the Quezon City Police District's and the Armed Forces of the Philippines'  bomb disposal personnel. —ALG, GMA News
