Classes at UP's College of Arts and Letters still suspended
Classes at the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Arts and Letters (CAL) affected by last week's fire will remain suspended until Wednesday.
UP Chancellor Michael Tan said displaced faculty affected by Friday's fire that hit the Bulwagang Rizal Faculty Center at the Diliman campus are being relocated.
"Please check with the Dean's Offices if you are looking for a department or a faculty member. The FC building remains off limits for safety reasons," Tan announced on Monday.
Fire struck the Faculty Center's third flood at past 1 a.m. It was declared out at past 11 a.m. of the same day.
Tan had said that 250 teachers hold office at the Faculty Center and a temporary office will be set up at the Palma Hall Pavilion.
The property damaged by the fire was estimated at P3 million.
Tan said that aside from the decades-old building, which was built in the 1960s, they lost valuable research materials of history, sociology and anthropology classes.
The center is made largely of light materials, with only wooden walls separating the offices of most faculty from the CAL and College of Social Sciences and Philosophy. —ALG, GMA News
