Zero-crime rate in Metro Manila during Duterte inauguration — PNP

The Philippine National Police-National Capital Region Police Office (PNP-NCRPO) claimed on Thursday that no crime incident was reported in Metro Manila throughout the inauguration of Rodrigo Duterte as 16th President of the Philippines.

According to a report on “24 Oras” by GMA's Jun Veneracion, the zero-crime rate incident usually happens when Filipino boxing champion and Senator Manny Pacquiao has a bout.

“I suppose it is unusual, una sa lahat bago pa naman talaga manumpa ang ating presidente...marami nang unusual na nangyari sa law enforcement side,” said Chief Insp. Kimberly Molitas, spokesperson of PNP-NCRPO.

The events that took place prior to Duterte's inauguration were considered unusual.

At least 352 suspected drug pushers and users surrendered in Quezon City, days before the president formally assumes office.

The PNP also expects around 500 drug pushers and users in Pasay City will surrender on Friday.

“Bibigyan muna natin sila ng pagkakataon na sumuko sa atin, after nito intensify na natin ang operation laban sa kanila,” said Pasay City Police Chief Senior Supt. Joel Dorie.

The Pasay City police gives drug offenders five days to surrender and voluntarily undergo rehabilitation. After the deadline, the police said they will intensify their anti-illegal drugs operation.

With the help of information obtained from pushers and users, who surrendered, many of the PNP's operations are positive. A more aggressive campaign against criminality will be expected under the new administration. — BAP, GMA News
