Pasig odd-even traffic scheme takes effect; motorists complain

Pasig City implemented Thursday its experimental odd-even traffic scheme on some of its roads, but not all motorists were happy about it, a report on News To Go said.

Under the new scheme, vehicles with four wheels with plate numbers ending in an odd number will not be allowed on certain streets on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Vehicles with four wheels with plate numbers ending in an even number, meanwhile, will not be allowed on the same streets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

The roads included in the traffic scheme are:

  • Elisco Road westbound;
  • R. Jabson Street northbound;
  • Intersection of Elisco Road, M. Concepcion Street, and R. Jabson Street;
  • San Guillermo Street eastbound; and
  • Sandoval Avenue northbound.

"Ito po, mga four-wheelers and above na private ang bawal dito sa odd and even number traffic scheme natin. At may mga exempted naman po tayo katulad ng public utility vehicle," Mar Lugto, head of the Traffic and Parking Management Office (TPMO) District 1, said.

Some motorists' attention were called for violating the experimental odd-event traffic scheme on Thursday.

While there were motorists who approved of the scheme if it will solve the traffic congestion in the area, others complained that they have to go farther in their route.

"Ang layo ng iniikutan eh," one motorist said.

"'Pag halimbawa babalik sa pinanggalingan ko, 'di ko na alam kung saan ako dadaan," another one said.

Authorities put up traffic advisory signs on the roads included in the odd-even scheme to guide motorists where to go.

"Sa una lang naman 'yan. Pagkatapos nitong pag-aaral namin na ito, 'pag maganda ang naging resulta nito, sila mismo matutuwa nito," Lugto said.

The TPMO said motorists are welcome to get in touch with their office to complain about the experimental traffic scheme. —KG, GMA News
