Mom, who left Baby Jade in trash bin, charged with frustrated infanticide

The mother of Baby Jade, the infant recently found inside a trash can at the Jade Garden Town Homes compound in Valenzuela City, has been charged with frustratded infanticide on Friday.

Task Force Baby Jane head Chief Inspector Allan Ruba told Cesar Apolinario on 24 Oras that the 23-year-old woman is also subject to psychiatric counseling after she recovers from giving birth to the infant.

"Okay naman yung kanyang recovery. Subject for counseling," Ruba said.

Officials of Valenzuela City's Social Welfare Department found the woman a week after she allegedly wrapped the infant in a plastic bag, placed her inside a cardboard box, and left her at a bin inside the compound where she worked as a housekeeper.

Jade fell into a coma after suffering from oxygen deprivation from being stuffed inside the box for at least six hours.

Complications that developed during the coma may lead to retardation or cerebral palsy.

The Valenzuela local government promised to pay for the baby's medical fees.

Jade was moved from the Valenzuela City Emergency Hospital to the Philippine Children's Medical Center in Quezon City for better care.

CSWD head Dorothy Go Evangelista remains optimistic that Jade will recover despite the child remaining in critical condition.

"We're very positive. For seven days... her vital signs up to the fifth day was dropping and then suddenly on the sixth and seventh day, and today, her signs were good," Evangelista said.

"She will overcome itong stage na ito," she added. —Rie Takumi/NB, GMA News
