MMDA to motorists: Avoid EDSA-Taft due to MRT-3 coach assembly

Motorists passing the EDSA-Taft Avenue area in Pasay City can expect moderate to heavy traffic Sunday afternoon due to the assembly of new coaches of the MRT-3 at Taft Avenue Station.

In its advisory, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said the innermost lane of EDSA southbound will be closed to all types of vehicles from 3 p.m. to 9.pm.

"The innermost lane along EDSA southbound near the MRT-3 Taft Station and the EDSA-Taft Avenue intersection will be closed this Sunday to ensure the safety of motorists during the assembly of two new MRT-3 light rail vehicles."

The MMDA advised motorists to take alternate routes in going to their destinations.

The Department of Transpiration acquired the light-rail vehicles (LRVs) from CNR Dalian in China for the capacity expansion project of the MRT-3.

A total of 48 LRVs were ordered from CNR Dalian with the last delivery expected by early 2017. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/LBG, GMA News
