QC funeral home ordered closed over sanitation issue
The Quezon City government on Tuesday ordered the closure of a funeral home near La Loma for violating provisions of the sanitation code.
City health officials who went to Henry Funeral Homes in Barangay Paang Bundok for inspection discovered a grisly scene of dozens of unclaimed cadavers, many of them in advanced stages of decomposition.
The officials went to the funeral home after they received numerous complaints from nearby residents regarding foul odor emanating from the place.
"Kung hindi ito naagapan, pwede tayong magkaroon ng epidemic dito," city health officer Dr. Verdades Linga said.
Linga said most of the cadavers have already been stocked for a long period of time, compromising the health of a nearby community.
City Civil Registrar Ramon Matabang has already made preparations for a mass burial in the Bagbag Public Cemetery.
It was also learned that the management of Henry Funeral Homes has already made arrangements with the Manila North Cemetery for burial preparations.
The funeral home was ordered to stop operations by the City Health Department last September 23 for its failure to secure necessary sanitary and health permits.
Matabang said they are also looking into reports that the funeral home operated without a business permit for the past three years.
His office will coordinate with the legal department to file appropriate charges against the owner of Henry Funeral Homes.
