84,000 VISITORS ON EVE

More people flock to Manila Memorial Park on All Saints' Day

Despite slight rains, more people are flocking to Manila Memorial Park in Sucat, Parañaque to visit departed loved ones for All Saints' Day.

A report by GMA News' Jam Sisante on News To Go said some have set up tents on tombs as shield from the rain.

The report quoted Manila Memorial Park manager Dennis Zalameda as saying that around 84,000 people came to the cemetery from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, October 31.

Many also spent the night in the cemetery, the report added.

More police officers have been deployed in the area given the expected crowd.

Zalameda advised people to come to the cemetery earlier, with the influx of visitors expected in the afternoon.

As of Tuesday morning, no traffic was seen along South Luzon Expressway to Sucat and Bicutan.

However, a slight build-up of vehicles was noted on roads leading to the Manila Memorial Park and the neighboring Loyola Memorial Park.

Prices of flowers being sold at the Manila Memorial Park have increased. A small basket of flowers now costs P80 from P50, while a medium-sized basket's price has increased from P200 to P350. A big basket, meanwhile, sells at P500 from its old price of P350. —Rose-Ann Jessica Dioquino/ALG, GMA News
