Fire along Roosevelt Avenue in QC reaches third alarm

Fire broke out along Roosevelt Avenue, Brgy. Paraiso, Quezon City on Monday morning, radio dzBB tweeted.

The fire has reached the third alarm as of posting time.

One of the houses affected by the fire was the ancestral house of the Juico family.

Firemen and residents helped rescue valuable items from the ancestral house, including paintings by National Artist Fernando Amorsolo.

The three Amorsolo paintings that were saved from the burning house were portraits of matriarch Maria "Lily" Ella Juico, according to her daughter Jenny Juico.

The Juico ancestral house was designed by National Artist Pablo Antonio.

A report on "24 Oras" said the Juico family sold the almost four-decade old house to a conservationist company, hoping the structure would be well maintained.

Investigators said the fire started at the house's chapel on the second floor, the report said. —KG/KBK, GMA News
