Two hurt in construction site mishap in Manila
Two construction workers were hurt after a construction site collapsed in Legarda Street, Manila on Friday, a Balita Pilipinas Ngayon report said.
The victims were identified as Ramil Poblacio and Guillermo Sia, both carpenters working at the construction site.
According to Manila City Engineer’s Office, a portion of a restaurant being constructed in front of LRT-2 Legarda Station collapsed around 11 a.m. on Friday.
The victims were immediately brought to the hospital.
Because of the incident, construction of the said restaurant was temporarily suspended.
Authorities said the removal of the scaffolding may have caused the collapsed.
In a statement, restaurant owner Jollibee said it was coordinating with the contracting agency and the proper authorities to facilitate the investigation of the incident.
"A canopy in the on-going construction of Jollibee Legarda corner Bustillos in Manila collapsed this morning injuring one stay-in worker who was immediately brought to the hospital to receive appropriate treatment," Arline Adeva PR Director of Jollibee Foods said in a statement.
"The company has also immediately implemented additional safety measures to safeguard passersby in the area," she said.
She said that the company would like to assure the public that this is an isolated incident and that it continues to adhere to the highest safety standards in the construction or renovation of its outlets nationwide.
