Bilibid on temporary lockdown following escape of inmate
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has placed the New Bilibid Prison on temporary lockdown after an inmate escaped early Tuesday morning.
BuCor Director General Benjamin delos Santos said the lockdown was to aid the manhunt operation against Manuel Paril Jr., who was convicted of homicide and frustrated homicide by a Muntinlupa City court.
"[The] NBP is on temporary shutdown pending completion of search operations. There is a possibility escapee Paril is still within the prison grounds,” Delos Santos said.
A seven-man recovery team was also formed to apprehend Paril, who reportedly managed to escape by breaking an access door to one of the buildings inside the national penitentiary.
Delos Santos said "appropriate investigation" is underway to determine the administrative and criminal liabilities of custodial guards involved.
Paril had already completed his sentence for homicide and frustrated homicide but Delos Santos said they decided to put him under NBP custody due to his pending rape cases in Gumaca, Quezon. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
