Truck ban imposed on Roxas Blvd, Osmeña Highway for Black Nazarene
A temporary truck ban will be imposed along Roxas Boulevard and Osmeña Highway to give way for the procession of the Black Nazarene, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Sunday said.
In a text message, MMDA chairman Tim Orbos said the truck ban will be effective between Quirino Avenue to Anda Circle from 12 midnight to 1 p.m of January 9.
"We need to implement this measure for a few hours to give way to the Traslacion, as it will pass through Roxas Boulevard which translates to traffic for a few hours," Orbos said.
The MMDA advised truckers to use alternate routes in entering or exiting the port of Manila.
The procession route of the Black Nazarene of Quiapo on Monday will start at the Quirino Grandstand and end at the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila.
The traslacion is scheduled to start as early as 7:00 a.m., but devotees are expected to gather at the Quiapo church and along the path of the procession earlier.
It is expected to end between 9:00 to 11:00 p.m.
With traffic expected to be heavy as certain roads will be closed by the government, GMA News Online has also come up with a map of alternate routes to avoid the traffic. — Joseph Tristan Roxas and Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
