Victim of LPG refilling station blast in Pasig dies
A victim of the LPG refilling station explosion in Pasig City died after sustaining burns on 98 percent of the body, a report on Balitanghali on Thursday said.
Sr. Insp. Anthony Arroyo, Arson Investigation Chief of the Pasig Fire Department, said the victim died while undergoing treatment at the Philippine General Hospital after the Regasco LPG Refilling Station exploded, GMA News' Maki Pulido reported.
Twenty people were caught in the explosion suspected to have been caused by a leak in the pipe system of the bullet tankers in the refilling station.
Arroyo said the fumes from the LPG may have leaked into and built up in the employees' sleeping quarters before it ignited.
Twelve employees of the refilling station were injured in the blast while an employee of the neighboring furniture shop was rushed to the hospital after a wall collapsed on them due to the explosion.
Bureau of Fire Protection officials are inspecting whether the Regasco LPG Filling Station adhered to safety standards prior to the incident and if it had a sensor that automatically detected gas leaks.
They have so far found that everything in the refilling station required manual operation, meaning employees need to shut off valves by hand in case of a leak.
Employees were unable to report Tuesday's LPG leak on time. —Rie Takumi/KG, GMA News
