At least four suspected makers of fake documents were arrested in a raid conducted by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group on Thursday afternoon on C.M. Recto Avenue in Manila.

Senior Supt. Belli Tamayo, head of CIDG National Capital Region, said they conducted the raid based on the instruction of President Rodrigo Duterte for the police to go after the source of fake documents.

"This is upon the pronouncement of President Duterte to go after the makers of fake documents," he told reporters.

The names of the suspects were not immediately known.

Authorities confiscated fake documents, a printing machine used in faking documents, and even video karera and fruit game machines during the raid.

Tamayo said they were initially targeting 13 establishments but only four were open when they arrived.

"Dapat 13 ang target pero nakapaligpit na daw 'yung iba," he said

Chief Insp. Baltazar Beran said it took them three months to conduct the surveillance.

"Nag-test buy kami dito. Nakakuha kami ng senior citizen card, permit to carry firearms license, PNP ID, kahit medical at death certificate," he said.

"Walang imposible dito sa Recto University," he added.

He said a fake birth certificate costs from P600 to P1,000 while a fake land title costs around P4,500.

Minsan may consent nung Hapon, minsan wala,” he said.

He said the fake documents they got were very similar to the authentic ones.

Beran added that they even sought the help of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to check the authenticity of the land titles.

—KG, GMA News
