Number coding lifted in Metro Manila for ASEAN Summit
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced that car coding in the capital will be lifted for the 30th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit this week.
In an advisory in its social media accounts on Tuesday, MMDA said that the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP)—more popularly called the number coding scheme—will be lifted on April 28, Friday, throughout Metro Manila with the exception of Las Piñas City.
Meanwhile, number coding in Makati City will be lifted from April 27 to 28.
MMDA on Monday also recommended that motorists avoid some parts of Manila, Makati and Pasay City during the Summit.
The traffic authority has released a traffic rerouting plan, in which a “stop and go” scheme will be implemented from Wednesday to Saturday.
Malacañang earlier declared April 28, Friday, a special non-working day in Metro Manila.
Work in government offices in Metro Manila, particularly in Makati and Pasay, was suspended on April 27.
The 30th ASEAN Summit proper and related meetings will be held on April 26 to 29, with the Philippines as designated host and chairman. At least nine member states are expected to meet on April 29 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC). — TJD, GMA News
