AFTER BACLARAN

Next clearings ops set in Quiapo, Divisoria, Balintawak, Cubao, Monumento

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday said it will expand its clearing operations in other heavily congested areas of Metro Manila following its successful campaign at the Baclaran area.

“Everyone thought that clearing and cleaning Baclaran is an insurmountable task but nothing is impossible if we work together to achieve a common goal,” MMDA general manager Tim Orbos said in a statement.

Orbos said the agency aims to start its clearing operations in Balintawak, Cubao, Quiapo, Alabang, Monumento and Divisoria by December this year.

“We want to continue these operations and to strike while the iron is hot, so to speak, and while we have the momentum on our side,” he said.

Last month, the MMDA cleared the sidewalks and the service roads surrounding Baclaran in Parañaque City.

The MMDA also towed and impounded illegally-parked vehicles on the service road from C. Rivera Street in Baclaran up to EDSA.

Orbos earlier said the agency will expand its clearing operations along Roxas Boulevard in Manila.

Orbos hopes the continuous clearing operations of major road networks and inner streets in Metro Manila, together with traffic schemes such as the number coding, would improve the metropolis' heavily congested highways. — Joseph Tristan Roxas/MDM, GMA News
