Plumber dies inside Pasig septic tank after rescuing colleague
A man died on Wednesday after he fell into a septic tank in Barangay Bagong Ilog, Pasig City while rescuing his colleague.
According to a "24 Oras" report by Bam Alegre, the victim was identified as Richard Cabarlos, an employee of Uniplus Plumbing.
Cabarlos was trying to save his co-worker Marvin Emadin, who first dove into the septic tank containing neck-deep waste and complained about getting dizzy.
"Nagpapasalamat ako sa kanya kasi kung 'di dahil sa kanya, namatay na ako... masakit para sa akin," said Emadin, who was only in his underwear and was not wearing safety gear during the incident.
After rescuing Emadin, Carlos was unable to emerge from the septic tank.
Rescue workers had a difficult time recovering Carlos' remains from the tank.
"Nag-struggle ako sa pagkuha sa kanya sa sobrang dulas niya. Iniiwasan ko mabitawan uli baka mahirapan ako mahanap uli kaya 'di ko na binitawan sa damit niya," said rescue technician Rommel Montefalcon.
No representatives from Uniplus Plumbing came to the accident area, the report noted.
Authorities said the company may face charges due to the lack of safety equipment of its employees.
Uniplus Plumbing has not yet released a statement on the incident. —Anna Felicia Bajo/JST, GMA News
