Gun-toting motorist draws ire of MMDA chair Danny Lim

Metro Manila Development Authority chairman Danilo Lim has ordered the investigation for possible filing of charges against a motorist who showed his gun to MMDA personnel during an anti-illegal parking operation in Quezon City.

In a press release issued on Friday, Lim said he would not let the incident pass.

“We will not let this incident pass because we have to protect our people from abusive individuals but we will not also tolerate our personnel who are engaged in illicit activities. We will also apply on them the full force of the law,” he said.

While clearing illegally parked vehicles at the corner of Scout Tobias and Scout Limbaga last Wednesday, towing team leader Larry Miravite was accosted and cursed at by a man, who owned one of the vehicles.

“Nakita n’yo na nga walang maparkan at ginagawa ang kalsada,” Miravite quoted the man as saying.

The motorist, identified as Ronnie Tampingco, an Optical Media Board (OMB) agent, was told that he parked at a tow-away zone and that he should park elsewhere.

Tampingco boarded his car then approached Miravite again, lifting his polo shirt to show a gun tucked in his waist.

He then drove his car from the area, ignoring MMDA personnel who attempted to talk to him, before entering the OMB building on Scout Limbaga.

Lim, a former general of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, has ordered General Manager to investigate the incident. —NB, GMA News
