Sales of school supplies in Baclaran remain low
Sales of school supplies in Baclaran, Parañaque City remained low, five days before the opening of classes on Monday, June 5.
According to a report by GMA News' Victoria Tulad on Balitanghali on Wednesday, this year's sales in Baclaran were much lower compared to that of the previous year even though the prices remained the same.
It said that bags for elementary students which cost around P350 are the most salable in the area.
Prices of school supplies in Baclaran:
- Bag (all ages) - P100 - P1,000
- Polo/Blouse - P100 - P160
- Shorts - P90 - P160
- Skirt - P120 - P165
- Pants - P150 - P210
- Rubber shoes - P350 - P1,800
- Black shoes - P250 - P380
- Notebook - P10 per piece
- Pencil/Ballpen - P20 per three pieces
- Pad paper - P8 - P20
- Crayons - P15 - P25
- Ruler/Glue - P10 - P20
- Plastic cover - P25 per five meters
Some high school students opted to buy school supplies on Wednesday before they attended the mass at the Redemptorist Church, also known as the Baclaran Church.
However, one of the students buying school supplies in Baclaran said her budget was not enough since the bag which she initially thought would only cost P150 was actually priced at P300 to P350.
Asked why she decided to buy school supplies in Baclaran instead of going to the mall, Roselyn Bartulata said, "Ang tingin po kasi namin mahal (sa mall)."
Meanwhile, some vendors in Baclaran expressed hope that their sales would increase in the next few days, especially this weekend.
"Siyempre dala ng tag-ulan, tsaka siguro dala na rin ng crisis kaya matumal," Nash Mauyag, one of the vendors in Baclaran, said.
"This weekend bago magpasukan, dun po talaga dadagsa 'yung maraming buyers," Mark Aquino, another vendor, said. —KG, GMA News
