Flooding in Metro Manila blamed on garbage anew
After the rain, motorists on Wednesday braved flash floods and in some parts of Makati, Manila, Mandaluyong, Parañaque, San Juan and Quezon City.
According a report by Bernadette Reyes on "Balitanghali", the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) blamed this on the 12 trucks of garbage they collect daily.
"Kung hindi yan makukuha na truckload ng basura araw-araw, lulubog na siguro ang Metro Manila," MMDA Spokesperson Celine Pialago explained in an interview.
Unfinished road projects added to the burden, such as the NLEX-SLEX-Skyway Connection and the Malabon-Navotas R-10 Boundary under repair.
Secretary Mark Villar said some projects of the DPWH are to ease the flooding.
He referred to the water pumping station in Roxas Boulevard and the recently widened roads with drainage along Mother Ignacia and Quezon Ave.
Villar also said the DPWH is also working to hasten the the repairs done along Commonwealth Avenue.
"That's my commitment," Villar said.
"Every year, magkakaroon ng improvement sa flooding," he added. —Claire Layug/NB, GMA News
