Police precinct commander relieved from post over Pasay condo stabbing


Pasay City Police chief Senior Superintendent Dionisio Bartolome has ordered the administrative relief of a police precinct commander following Tuesday night's stabbing which left six people dead, including the suspect.

In a text message to reporters, Bartolome identified the relieved officer as Senior Inspector Edgar Dimaunahan, commander of Pasay City Police Community Precinct 5, which has jurisdiction over the condominium where the deadly incident happened. 

Bartolome said the relief was called for pending investigation on the incident.

The stabbing happened around 6:30 p.m. at Central Park Tower Condominium in Pasay City.

The suspect, Alberto Garan, 39, was killed by responding policemen on the 22nd floor of the building. Police recovered a 14-inch kitchen knife, three cellular phones, sling bag containing Garan’s identification cards and a cal .38 gun without serial number.

The fatalities were identified as Garan's girlfriend, Emelyn Sagun, 30; former journalist Joel Palacios, 70; Daisery Castillo, 12; Ligaya Dimapilis, 36; and Letecia Ecsiagan, 50. — Amita Legaspi/RSJ/KVD, GMA News
