Carl Angelo Arnaiz’s dad: Hindi marunong humawak ng baril ‘yan

The father of Carl Angelo Arnaiz, the 19-year-old who was killed in August in an alleged encounter with police, said his son does not know how to hold a gun.

The elder Arnaiz also said he does not believe allegations that his son opened fire on the Caloocan police.

"Hindi naman 'yan totoo kasi hindi naman marunong humawak ng baril 'yan," Carlito Arnaiz said in an interview on Unang Balita on Monday.

He added that they will reach out to the Department of Justice (DOJ) as advised by the Public Attorney's Office (PAO).

Carlito said his family has spoken with PAO chief Attorney Persida Acosta regarding the next steps they will to attain justice for the death of his son.

"Ang sabi ni Attorney [Persida Acosta], dudulog daw kami sa Department of Justice," he said.

He also said he was not too familiar with "Kulot," the guy who was allegedly the last person to be with Carl.

Carlito also said his son often stayed at home.

"Mabait na bata 'yan si Carl, hindi palalayas 'yan. Nasa bahay lang lagi 'yan," he said.

"Sana sabihin nila ang totoong nangyari. Kawawa naman ang anak ko. Inosente 'yan, e," he concluded, addressing the policemen who allegedly exchanged bullets with Carl.

The teenager was allegedly killed by Caloocan City police on August 18 after he reportedly opened fire when police were approaching him for allegedly robbing a taxi driver.

Arnaiz was reportedly found with marijuana and shabu aside from the driver's wallet containing P450.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe Arnaiz's death.

The Internal Affairs Service and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) will also conduct an investigation, National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Chief Superintendent Oscar Albayalde said on Monday. —Akari Nakano/KG, GMA News
