Prices of chicken slowly go back to normal in Balintawak
The prices of chicken have started to go up in Balintawak Market in Quezon City after the 7-kilometer quarantine zone in Pampanga has been declared free of the avian flu, according to a report on Unang Balita on Monday.
In her report, Bernadette Reyes said sellers in the Balintawak Market were hoping the prices will slowly increase day by day to reach the usual price of P130 to P135 per kilo soon.
The price range of chickens has increased from P80 to P90-P95 per kilo.
"Sa awa ng Diyos, medyo bumalik-balik na rin sa normal [ang presyo ng manok]," one of the sellers said.
Some consumers were also still cautious in buying chicken, asking the sellers where the chickens came from.
Meanwhile, other customers were happy to buy chicken, taking advantage of its low price compared to pork that amounts to P190 per kilo and beef that amounts to P220 per kilo.
Sellers of chickens were hoping for the return of normal price range of chickens within this week or next week, the report said.
Authorities still advised the public to continue to cook thoroughly the chicken meat. —Akari Nakano/KG, GMA News
