‘A YEAR AFTER VIOLENT DISPERSAL’

LOOK: Indigenous groups, protesters march to US Embassy

At least 600 members of various indigenous and militant groups on Friday morning marched toward the US Embassy to mark the 26th anniversary of the bases treaty rejection.

According to Cecille Villarosa's report on radio dzBB, this is the second attempt by the groups to reach the embassy following the violent dispersal in 2016 when a police utility vehicle plowed into a group of protesters injuring at least 50 of them.

Sandugo, Bayan, and Tindeg Ranao were among the groups who marched from Plaza Salamanca on Taft Avenue corner Kalaw enroute to the US Embassy.

An effigy of US President Donald Trump riding a missile with an embossed image of Philippine President Duterte will also be burned in front of the US embassy as part of their plan to show their displeasure against the US government.

Meanwhile, Manila Police District authorities assured that maximum tolerance will be observed in dealing with the protesters. —Marlly Rome Bondoc/KG/KVD, GMA News
