Slugs recovered in crime scene match gun allegedly used by Carl Arnaiz
The slugs recovered from the crime scene where Carl Angelo Arnaiz allegedly engaged police in a shootout matched the gun said to be used by the 19-year-old.
So 'yun pong five cartridge cases na nakita sa revolver ay na-match din sa baril na sinubmit," Northern Police District Crime Laboratory chief Police Superintendent Arnel Marquez said during the resumption of the Senate probe on the killing of Kian delos Santos on Monday.
"'Yung baril po is paltik," he added.
When asked by Senator Risa Hontiveros how they were able to establish that the gun was indeed owned by Arnaiz since it was not licensed, Marquez said they received the information based on the story of the responding team and SOCO.
Meanwhile, Hontiveros also questioned the investigator of the case, Police Officer 2 Rodolfo Bautista, on whether he can confirm Marquez's claim.
"Can you confirm that? Hontiveros said.
Arnaiz's mother, Eva, for her part, remained firm that her son does not know how to hold a gun.
"Si Carl po ba ay nagmamay-ari ng isang paltik?" Hontiveros asked.
"Wala po, your honor," Eva responded.
Eva further insisted that her son did not even engage in fistfights.
On August 28, Arnaiz was found in a Caloocan morgue with authorities claiming that he robbed a taxi driver and fired at them, prompting the cops to fire back.
In a sworn affidavit, the policemen said Arnaiz robbed taxi driver Tomas Bagcal on C3 Road in Caloocan City, hit the driver on the head with a gun, took his wallet, and then fled the scene.
Caloocan City cops Police Officers 1 Jeffrey Perez and Ricky Arquilita have already been relieved pending investigation into the August 18 incident. —KG, GMA News
