Two Manila traders slapped with tax evasion raps

Two Manila traders have been charged with tax evasion by the Bureau of the Internal Revenue (BIR) before the Department of Justice (DOJ) for alleged combined tax liability of P113.47 million.

Facing separate complaints for violation of Section 255 of the Tax Code are Marvin Castillo Malabanan, sole proprietor of Tondo-based Mardy Marketing & Trucking Services, and Rosario Dela Rosa Pastor, owner of Equi-Tri Construction.

The BIR filed the criminal complaints on September 28.

According to the BIR, Malabanan failed to pay P106.701 million in taxes for the year 2009 while Pastor was assessed with a tax liability of P6.769 million for 2010.

"The respondents’ obstinate failure and continued refusal to pay their long overdue deficiency taxes, despite repeated demands, constitute willful failure to pay the taxes due to the government," the BIR said. —KG, GMA News
