Witness details killing of ‘good Samaritan’ Grab driver
Grab driver Gerardo Amolato Maquidato Jr. was taken out of his car and was left on the Pasay City street right after he was shot dead, a witness said on GMA News' Saleema Refran's report on 24 Oras Tuesday.
"Noong nagkarooon ng ingay o putok, lumabas ako. May nakita akong sasakyan na naka-gitna sa daan. Umaandar," the witness said.
The witness noticed a shattered window on the driver's side of a silver Toyota Innova. For a better look, he then crossed the street to the opposite side of the car.
"Pagsilip ko mayroon palang tao sa driver's side na hindi gumagalaw at parang dugo na ano. Pagsilip ko, may tao sa likod na gumalaw," he said.
"Sumigaw na ako patakbo. Papuntang barangay. Sabi ko, may patay, may patay," he added.
When the witness got back to the scene after getting help, he saw a suspect in a white t-shirt pulling Maquidato's lifeless body from the driver's seat onto the ground.
The suspect was then seen on several security cameras in Barangay 190 in Pasay City behind the wheel of Maquidato's stolen vehicle.
It has yet to be concluded whether the suspect had accomplices inside the vehicle.
Pasay City police said Maquidato was shot once in the head by a person sitting at the back seat on the right side of the vehicle.
The bullet exited the victim's left eye.
"Single gunshot ang tumama sa kaniyang likod ng ulo at lumabas ito sa kaniyang kaliwang mata," Pasay Police deputy for operations Superintendent Gene Licud.
Seven GrabCar rider last recorded to have booked a ride with Maquidato are considered as persons of interest, including those with canceled bookings.
Maquidato was hailed as a "good Samaritan" for his courtesy in giving a free ride to a dialysis patient fetching blood bags in Quezon City.
After his death, Grab Philippines has instructed its partner drivers to ask their passengers to present a valid ID as an additional precautionary measure for similar untoward incidents. — Margaret Claire Layug/RSJ, GMA News
