PHL to deport arrested Chinese wanted for economic crimes

Bureau of Immigration (BI) operatives have arrested a Chinese fugitive wanted by authorities in Beijing for alleged economic crimes.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente on Monday identified the Chinese as 54-year-old Lin Ayong, who was nabbed in Binondo, Manila on November 2 by operatives from the bureau's Fugitive Search Unit (FSU).

Morente said he directed Lin's arrest at the request of the Chinese embassy in Manila and after learning that the Chinese government had already canceled the latter’s passport, thus making him an undocumented alien.

“He will be deported for being an undocumented alien and for being undesirable due to his criminal record for which he is deemed a threat to public safety and security,” the BI chief said.

Lin is currently detained at the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending issuance by the bureau’s board of commissioners of the order for his summary deportation.

After his deportation, he will be placed in the immigration blacklist and banned from re-entering the Philippines.

BI-FSU chief Bobby Raquepo said Lin hid in the country since June 17 last year when he last arrived in Manila as a tourist and did not leave since then.

The BI official that Lin is the subject of a detention warrant issued by the public security bureau of Jinjiang City in Fujian, China on March 1 this year.

Raquepo, however, said no other information about Lin’s alleged economic crimes was provided by the Chinese embassy. —ALG, GMA News
