Woman claims getting catcalled by cops in QC

A woman on Monday claimed that she was catcalled by policemen in Quezon City.

According to Tina Panganiban-Perez's report on "24 Oras", the complainant identified as Xandi said she was walking on Katipunan Avenue on the night of November 2 when she was catcalled by men on board a black car with blinkers on its roof.

"Naglalakad po ako in that part na walang ilaw. There was a cop car na parang nag-slow down and it kept pace with me," Xandi said.

"Tapos 'yung nasa passenger seat na guy, policeman, binaba niya 'yung window and he was looking at me with a really weird face. May narinig pa kong sumipol sa loob," she added.

The man, she said, seemed to be in his 30s and had fair skin.

Xandi said she was sure that it was a policeman's vehicle even though she was not able to notice if the men were wearing uniforms or if the vehicle had markings of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

"Alam ko pong police car po siya kasi itim po siya tapos 'yung blinker lights sa taas, it was on and it was really bright. And if it matters po, I wasn't wearing anything provocative. I was wearing pants, t-shirt, my sneakers and a backpack," Xandi said.

Meanwhile, Quezon City Police District director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar has ordered an investigation on the incident.

"I told our investigators to check on the CCTV and as well as our GPS para malaman natin anong sasakyan 'yung sinasabing responsible na 'yun," Eleazar said.

In Quezon City, an ordinance was passed aiming to reduce catcalling and other forms of street-level sexual harassment against women.

Fines ranging from P1,000 to P5,000 and jail terms of one day to one year will be imposed on people found guilty of making inappropriate remarks or stalking women in the city. —Anna Felicia Bajo/NB, GMA News
