Mandaluyong City Jail inmates in poor health due to overcapacity

Inmates at the Mandaluyong City Jail were found to be in poor health due to various illnesses as authorities conducted Oplan Greyhound in the cramped detention facility on Friday morning.

According to a report on News To Go, the jail has a capacity of 108 persons, but it currently holds around 800 inmates.

As a result, various illnesses easily spread inside the jail.

Inmates were asked to strip their shirts as their cells were inspected.

Operatives did not recover any illegal drugs, but authorities seized old spare parts of electric fans, mirror, ropes, and other contraband.

The female dorm was also inspected.

Authorities are hoping that the situation of Mandaluyong City Jail inmates will improve once the new jail facility is completed. —Jessica Bartolome/KG, GMA News
