Some addicts now inject shabu into bloodstreams for faster, better ‘high’
Shabu addicts are now using the illegal drug like a heroin, by melting it and injecting it directly into their bloodstream.
Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar, director of the Quezon City Police District, told Super Radyo dzBB that his operatives have discovered the "experiment" after a buy-bust operation at a hotel in Cubao area recently.
"Nalaman doon na tinutunaw nila ang shabu and then siyang ini-inject para mas mabilis daw po at mas malakas ang tama. Parang heroin ang dating," Eleazar said.
The police official said the "experimental" method of using shabu is much more dangerous than inhaling smoke from the illegal drug.
"Iyon nga pong sinisinghot na ito at sinusunog ay synthetic na ito eh, how much more itong experimentong tinutunaw at itinuturok nila," he said.
Eleazar said 10 people, including an alleged drug dealer identified as Marco Paulo Cruz, were arrested during the buy-bust operation.
He said the operation of Cruz's group was discovered by the police after the management of the hotel informed them that the group has been checked in at the establishment for at least three weeks.
Eleazar said that through a police poseur-buyer, they were able to confirm that Cruz's group has turned the hotel room into a drug den.
Some of those arrested along with Cruz were drug dependents.
Meanwhile, Eleazar said that some drug dealers have been using some hotels, apartelles and motels in the city to evade arrest by the police.
He said that some business owners are cooperating with the police to arrest these drug groups. —ALG, GMA News
