MMDA: 15 truckloads of trash collected so far along Traslacion route
Fifteen truckloads of trash have been collected along the route of the Traslacion in Manila, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Wednesday morning.
MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said trash collection along the route of the Traslacion was ongoing.
Pialago said that the MMDA deployed at least 100 street sweepers and six- and 10-wheeler compactor and dump trucks for the trash collection.
She said that the agency and the city government were able to collect five trucks of trash from Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park, where the Traslacion started before 5 a.m. on Tuesday, up to Roxas Boulevard.
A team of trash collectors were also deployed at the tail end of the Traslacion on Tuesday.
Pialago said they are also collecting trash from other parts of Rizal Park, where Black Nazarene devotees stayed before and after the Traslacion.
She said trash that have so far been collected are mostly plastic bottles of mineral water, small styrofoam food boxes, leftover food, empty plastics of iced water and carton boxes.
The Manila Police District said at least 6.3 million people joined the Traslacion, which ended at 3 a.m. on Wednesday. —ALG, GMA News
